RFID application in Access control management

Radio frequency identification technology is currently used in many industries. Examples include industrial and logistics, including asset tracking and logistics, waste management, animal identification, retail and manufacturing, and healthcare. All tags store read and write functions in the device so that the tag’s stored data can be updated or read in time, ultimately improving business performance through tracking or quality control. So, what is the application of RFID technology in access control systems?

What is an access control management system?

The access control management system is a system that controls the entrance and exit passages. It is developed based on traditional door locks. The entrance and exit access control safety management system is a new type of modern safety management system, which integrates the automatic identification technology of microcomputers and modern safety management measures. It involves many new technologies such as electronics, machinery, optics, computer technology, communication technology, and biotechnology. It is an effective measure to solve the security management at the entrance and exit of important departments.

The traditional mechanical door lock is just a simple mechanical device. No matter how reasonable the structure design is and how strong the material is, people can always open it by various means. In passages with many people entering and exiting (such as office buildings, and hotel rooms), people’s management of keys is very cumbersome. If the key is lost or the personnel is replaced, the lock and key must be replaced together. To solve these problems, electronic magnetic card locks and electronic password locks have appeared. The emergence of these two types of locks has improved people’s management of entrance and exit channels to a certain extent, and made channel management enter the electronic age; but with these two kinds of locks With the continuous application of electronic locks, their defects are gradually exposed. The problems with magnetic card locks are that the information is easy to copy, the wear between the card and the card reader is large, the failure rate is high, and the safety factor is low. The problem with the combination lock is that the password is easy to leak, there is no way to check it, and the security factor is very low. At the same time, most of the products in this period used the card reader part (password input) and the control part to be installed outside the door together, so it was easy for people to open the lock outdoors. The access control system in this period was still in the early and immature stage, so the access control system at that time was usually called electronic lock, and it was not widely used.

With the development of proximity card technology and biometric identification technology in recent years, the access control system has developed by leaps and bounds and has entered a mature period. Out-of-order keyboard access control systems, etc.; all have their strengths in terms of security, convenience, and ease of management.

The basic principle of radio frequency identification is to use radio frequency for non-contact two-way communication to achieve the purpose of identification and data exchange. Therefore, it can realize multi-target identification, moving target identification, and remote real-time monitoring and management. The communication distance can be from a few centimeters to tens of meters. Its main advantage is that it has strong environmental adaptability, is less affected by rain, snow, hail, dust, etc., can work around the clock, completes automatic identification, tracking, and management without contact, and can Penetrates non-metallic objects for identification, with strong anti-interference ability.

RFID access control systems have long gone beyond the traditional doorway and key management functions. The safety requirements of the modern working environment, the administrative management of the department, the daily attendance management, the company’s catering consumption, etc., are all closely related to the access control system. Departments such as apartments, residential quarters, factory patrols, company R&D technology departments, medical units do not disturb areas, and financial and other departments are the best places for RFID access control systems to be applied. The installation of RFID access control systems in public exit and entry passages such as some offices and residential apartments can effectively prevent unauthorized personnel from entering, and maximize the security of these places. If an accident occurs in a certain period, you can query all the video data of the monitoring terminal in that period, as well as information such as exit and entry record data, to provide existing evidence.

In addition, an open-access control system is installed at the entrance of large conferences and the passages of important event venues. When participants or other people entering and exiting the passage pass through, the system automatically senses the RFID electronic tag invitation cards or identity cards held by the personnel. Documents to confirm the identity of people entering and leaving. Legal users pass through normally, and at the same time, the identity information of the passing personnel and the photos captured on the spot are displayed on the display screen, and the guards on duty can compare and confirm. When people without relevant identification documents or people with illegal documents pass through, the system equipment will prompt an alarm, and security personnel can prevent them from entering in time. For sports venues, concerts, and other leisure and entertainment facilities, RFID systems can provide a series of access control functions for ticket management. This can reduce losses due to ticket forgery. Tickets can be made by barcode printers with simple cards with RFID technology, and RFID cards can also be made into membership cards, monthly cards, or annual cards; tickets do not need to be taken out, just put on your body to read, Realize open access control management.

The RFID open access control system not only has all the functional characteristics of the traditional ordinary access control system but also has the characteristics of open multi-person rapid passage and recording the personal information of each entry and exit at the same time. When a person wearing an RFID card passes through the gate, the information in the ID card is automatically collected by the system without manual intervention, making access control management more convenient. The electronic label card has a long service life and can be read and written more than 100,000 times repeatedly, with a service life of more than ten years.

In practical applications, to achieve a safer use effect, the application of open access control systems often includes the comprehensive application of open and non-open access control systems. The open access control system is mainly composed of RFID electronic tags. It consists of four parts: the antenna part, video access image comparison verification part, upper computer software control, and remote control software based on LAN/WAN.

In vehicle entry and exit control, the access control system uses radio frequency identification technology, which can realize that vehicles with valid electronic tags do not stop, which is convenient for passing and saves time, and improves the traffic efficiency of intersections. Real-time monitoring can accurately verify the identity of the vehicle and the owner of the vehicle, maintain regional security and make the security management of the community or parking lot more humanized, information-based, intelligent, and efficient. It will also be part of the smart parking management system.
